Paige Jewell

Paige is currently a Water Resources Engineer at HNTB. She mainly does hydraulic design of Fish Passage projects through the WSDOT that aim to restore stream crossings for fish usage by removing barriers (culverts) and replacing them with fish friendly alternatives. She loves when she gets to visit a stream site and gather information while wading through waters as well as hydraulically model systems. She has lived in the Seattle area for about 1 year. Prior to moving here, she lived in Billings, Montana for three years and grew up in a Kansas suburb of Kansas City. Paige was involved with ASCE during her four years at Iowa State University including participation on the Concrete Canoe team. She is now one of the Networking Chairs with Seattle ASCE YMF. Paige enjoys playing card and board games, attending concerts and musicals, competing in soccer, backpacking/hiking, dancing at silent discos, and relaxing with a good book and warm drink. She is currently learning Python in her free time.

On what she wished she knew in college...

“I wish I knew how much cross-discipline knowledge would come in handy for many projects in the civil engineering profession. While someone else on the design team may be the expert on a topic (such a ecology, electrical, mechanical, etc.) it has benefited me greatly to be able to understand basic elements of other disciplines to be able to “speak their language” and think about how I may adjust my design from a broad scope to incorporate important elements outside my specific knowledge.“

On the benefits of ASCE...

“I have really enjoyed how much ASCE keeps me up to date with the civil engineering industry. From presentations, tours of projects and facilities, government relations emails, publications, and more – there is lots of information to make sure I know what is going on in a timely manner and continue to grow in my profession!”
