Philip Yu

Treasurer / University Practitioner Advisor - UW

Philip is a Marine Structures Engineer at Mott MacDonald and has been working on various recreational and commercial waterfront facilities along the west coast for the past four years. As as an engineer in the Ports, Coastal, and Offshore Practice, Philip has provided inspection, design, and construction support services for a number of different types of waterfront infrastructure that includes piers, wharves, boat ramps, floats, marinas, fender systems, dolphins, and breakwaters. Philip’s favorite aspect of his job would be the field work - being able to observe the history of existing structures and apply that knowledge and experience to rehabilitate, replace, or design completely new structures (and also use cool new gadgets in the process!).

Philip has been involved in ASCE since returning to the University of Washington (UW) in 2016 and graduated with his bachelors and masters in civil engineering in 2018 and 2019, respectively. During college, Philip was the ASCE UW Student Chapter President and construction manager for the Steel Bridge team at UW. Since then, Philip has joined the ASCE Seattle Section YMF board and served as At-Large Chair, UW Practitioner Advisor, and this year’s Treasurer. He is also concurrently the ASCE Seattle Section Treasurer and Financial Chair of this year’s WRYMC committee.

In his free time, Philip likes to cook, strength train, build Lego sets, and attend Seattle Symphony and Seattle Opera events.
